This pattern is an adaptation of a popular design that originated in New Orleans. It was named LeMoyne Star in honor of Jacques LeMoyne, Siuer de Bienville, founder of the city. After Louisana was purchased by the United States in 1803, American women called the design Lemon Star, and it began to appear in different parts of the country in various forms.
